SCAS Senior Intercounties Championship 2009, Andover 13th September 2009

New National Record for Nic - County Recurve Team Successfully Defends 3rd Place
It was a successful day for Oxfordshire on Sunday, as for the first time in years Oxfordshire fielded both a complete Recurve and a Compound County Team at the 2009 SCAS Intercounties Championship in Andover.
Oxford Archer's Nichola Simpson delivered yet another stunning performance this weekend when she set a new National Record for the Hereford round with an amazing 1290 points, dropping only 6 points in the entire round and effortlessly smashing the existing record of 1280. With Nichola as the undisputed Lady Champion, the Compound Team of Oxford Archers (Nichola Simpson, Ian Simpson, Stuart Wilson, and James Swell) achieved 7th place despite some equipment troubles.
But there were also impressive performances by the Recurve Team (Kat Baier, Ioannis Chrisinas, Antje Frotscher, and Nat Merry from Oxford Archers, with Marc Tamlyn of OUCofA in reserve). Losing out on second place by a mere eight points to mighty Hampshire, they successfully defended their 3rd place and took the Bruce Freshwater Trophy back home again. Additional individual achievements include several Rose Award and Six Gold End badges claimed, and Antje Frotscher winning first place among the Lady Recurves by a single Gold.
"It was exciting to see so many archers wearing the black and yellow of Oxfordshire on the line, and we are happy with what we have accomplished this year," says Team Manager Kat Baier, who fortified the archers with home-baked cake during the day. "Both teams delivered solid performances, but we are definitely planning on improving on our achievements next year. Essex and Hampshire better watch their backs!"
